पटना में एक पंद्रह साल का लड़का रहता था जिसका नाम था पंशुल, वह बहुत अच्छा फुटबॉल खेलता था। पंशुल के पिताजी सरकारी कार्यालय में काम करते थे और उससे बहुत प्यार करते थे। पंशुल शुरू से पढ़ाई में काफी तेज़ था लेकिन उसे पढ़ाई से ज़्यादा फुटबॉल खेलने में मज़ा आता था। उसके पिताजी को यह बात अच्छे से पता थी और वह नहीं चाहते थे कि पंशुल फुटबॉल में अपना करियर बनाये। दरअसल, भारत में क्रिकेट को छोड़ कर बाकी किसी भी खेल में बहुत ज़्यादा उम्मीद की किरण नहीं नज़र आती। जब पंशुल के बोर्ड का परिणाम आया, तो उसके बहुत अच्छे अंक आये और उसने पूरे जिले में टॉप किया। उसके परिणाम देख कर, घर में सब ने उसकी बहुत तारीफ की और उसके पिताजी को सब ने उसे इंजीनियरिंग या मेडिकल के क्षेत्र में भेजने की सलाह दी। बिहार, खास तौर पर आई आई टी में होनहार विद्यार्थी देने के लिए जाना जाता है और इससे प्रभावित होकर पंशुल के पिता ने उसे इसी की तैयारी कराने का फैसला किया। पंशुल को पढ़ाई में कोई परेशानी तो नहीं होती थी लेकिन उसे सबसे ज़्यादा मज़ा खेलने में ही आता था। जब उसका परिणाम आया तो उसने पिताजी से कहा कि वह भारतीय अंडर – 17 टीम के लिए खेलना चाहता है, वह पहले ही बिहार की टीम से राज्य स्तर पर खेलता था। पिताजी ने पंशुल को साफ़ निर्देश दिया कि वह फुटबॉल से ध्यान हटा कर अब पूरा ध्यान पढ़ाई पर लगा दे। पंशुल ने पिताजी को बहुत समझाने की कोशिश की लेकिन उसकी एक न सुनी गई। पंशुल ने हार मान कर पिताजी की बात मान ली और फुटबॉल का सपना छोड़ दिया। जब कोचिंग शुरू हुआ तब पंशुल की पढ़ाई काफी अच्छी चल रही थी लेकिन धीरे – धीरे उसके प्रदर्शन में गिरावट आना शुरू हुआ और एक साल के अंत तक, मानो वो सबसे ऊपर से सबसे नीचे खिसक गया हो। पंशुल के पिताजी को उसकी चिंता होने लगी और उन्होंने पंशुल से बात करने का सोचा। पिताजी जानना चाहते थे कि पढ़ाई में इतने अच्छे रहे उनके बेटे का प्रदर्शन अचानक से ही कैसे ख़राब हो गया?

Translation
A fifteen-year-old boy lived in Patna named Panshul, he used to play football extremely well. Panshul’s father worked in a government office and loved him very much. Panshul was very bright in studies right from the beginning but he enjoyed playing football more than his studies. His father knew this well and did not want Panshul to pursue a career in football. Actually, in India, except cricket, there is not much hope in any other game. When the result of Panshul’s board exams came, he got very good marks and topped the entire district. Seeing his results, everyone in the house praised him very much and his father was advised by everyone to send him in engineering or medical field. Bihar is known for giving sincere students, especially in IIT, and being influenced by this, Panshul’s father decided to make him prepare for the same. Panshul did not have any problem in studies but he used to enjoy playing the most. When his results came, he told the father that he wanted to play for the Indian Under-17 team, he had already played at the state level with the Bihar team. Father gave clear instructions to Panshul that he should focus on studies, shifting his focus from football. Panshul tried to convince father a lot but he was not listened to. Panshul gave up on his father and gave up his dream of football. When coaching started, Panshul’s studies were going very well but gradually his performance started to decline and by the end of one year, it was like he had slipped from the top to the bottom. Panshul’s father began to worry about him and thought to talk to Panshul. Father wanted to know how his son’s performance in academics, which was so good had suddenly deteriorated?
